Overview

Working directly with the founders of the non-profit organization Pedal the Pacific. We developed a new logo for them and app prototype. If they obtain funding the app will be developed.

Pedal the Pacific exists to educate all people about sex trafficking. Using bikes as a platform to raise awareness, educate peers, fundraise for leading nonprofits, and develop leaders who believe that no voice is too small to make a difference. Pedal the Pacific aims to create advocates that can teach others, interviewing and building a team of 12 young women each year that train for a bike ride down the coast from Seattle to San Diego over the span of 2 months to use the bikes as a platform to spread awareness and raise funds for the fight against sex trafficking.

Because of COVID-19 the 2020 summer ride down the coast was canceled and reinvented to be Pedal in Place, with this came community involvement. The team was charged with creating community teams of friends and family that would bike with them, separate but together, to raise money and awareness. Managing these community teams was done through the application atlasgo. The 2021 Pedal the Pacific team is on schedule to bike the coast this summer, beginning June 2021. Training and managing the Pedal teams training, fundraising, reading, and separate inner team tasks is complex and spread amongst multiple platforms. We worked directly with the founders of Pedal the Pacific to create solutions to the complexities of team management and community team involvement.

Reflection

  • Development

Development- funding would need to be secured from a donor for the pedal the Pacific app to go into development. Working directly with developer to create this app would be a growing experience in learning the limitations of our designs and in reformatting pages to fit those constraints. Then conducting user testing after the app went through dev to ensure user centricity in the designs.

  • Usability Testing

Although we conducted usability testing, I feel that it would have been better to observe usability from the actual device we designed for, and iPhone 8, rather than laptop. We also conducted usability testing with friends and family as COVID-19 has limited the in person interaction we can have with strangers. It would have been preferable to use an application like Marvel as a solution, by conducting usability testing on the previous members of Pedal to get their opinion on the solutions we came up with to their pain points.
